BWSL: Round 4 Preview

Following a short break to coincide with the semi-finals of the Betfred Women's Challenge Cup, the Betfred Women’s Super League (BWSL) returns this weekend...

St Helens kick the weekend off when they host Leeds Rhinos at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Friday (5.30pm) – the first live BWSL fixture on Sky Sports this year. The fixture will be a dress rehearsal of the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup Final as Matty Smith’s team welcome Leeds in what should be another thrilling encounter between the famous rivals.

Both sides head into the match in fantastic spirits after booking their spots at Wembley on Saturday 8 June. The Rhinos are yet to be beaten so far in 2024, which included an impressive away victory against current Champions York Valkyrie last time out in the league.

Saints are looking for their first home win over the Rhinos since a 20-14 victory back in 2018, and with the Challenge Cup Final just two weeks away, it should make for an intriguing clash in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

Wigan Warriors will be looking to continue their perfect start to the Super League season when they face Warrington Wolves at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Saturday (KO 1pm).

The Warriors came out on top when they met each other in the league last season. Tries from Anna Davies and Rachel Thompson putting them in front at the break after a closely-fought first half which also saw Abigail Johnston and Claire Mullaney cross.

Quick fire tries from Davies and Holly Speakman at the start of the second half was then enough for the Warriors, despite Molly Jones being sent to the sin-bin in the final 15 minutes.

Sunday will see Barrow Raiders host Featherstone Rovers at Craven Park (KO 12pm). Both teams were promoted into the Super League at the end of last season and will be hoping that this fixture could grant them their first points of 2024.

Results are fairly evenly split in their previous meetings with Featherstone just ahead on three wins from five, but Barrow will be encouraged by their 24-10 against their opposition in July last year.

Huddersfield Giants host York Valkyrie at the Laund Hill on Sunday (KO 2pm) – a side the Giants are yet to defeat in any of their previous meetings. Currently sitting bottom of the Super League table Huddersfield are in need of a win and will face a York side suffering back-to-back losses in both the league adn cup.

Could this be the year they get a result against one of the competition’s strongest teams?
