Magic WKND Day One Round Up

Magic WKND Day One started with a bang at Elland Road, as London Broncos pulled off a sensational win to beat Hull FC 4-29, in a battle of the bottom.

The Broncos always led throughout the game, with their star man Josh Rourke opening the scores on the 6th minute – his dummy fooling the Black & White defenders.

Hull FC did hit back immediately through Lewis Martin, who collected a kick on the last tackle to touch down. This would be Hull’s only score, however, as the Broncos went on to score 23 unanswered points and claim their third win of the season.

Jack Campagnolo finished off another great try in the first half, before Rourke completed his double in the closing stages of the second.

Emmanuel Waine then broke through the Hull line with another explosive run and had Oli Leyland in support to round off a memorable victory.

The Broncos now find themselves level on league points with their opponents in the Betfred Super League table.

Wigan Warriors then returned to the top of the table for at least a day with a three try triumph over rivals St Helens.

This Derby Day was one to remember for the Warriors, who kept Saints scoreless – the first time St Helens have been nilled in four years.

Liam Marshall added to his try scoring tally on Saturday afternoon and continues to lead the way as Super League’s top try scorer with 22 tries.

The Magic moments continued when 18-year-old Jack Farrimond then went over for Wigan’s second try on the 19th minute. The youngster came up with a superb solo effort, collecting his own grubber kick to dive over and extending his side’s lead.

The third and final try came from Sam Walters, who pounced on an Abbas Miski kick to go over for his first in the Cherry & White, and seal a 20-0 win.

Day One was rounded off with a blockbuster battle between Warrington Wolves and Leeds Rhinos.

The first forty was closely contested with just a Warrington penalty goal and George Williams 60-metre effort separating the two sides.

Leeds could have had points on the board, but an excellent try saving effort from Josh Thewlis on Ash Handley kept the Rhinos out.

After 50 minutes played, Matt Dufty edged the Wolves further in front as he sliced through the Leeds defence to slide over.

And magic Dufty made it two tries in five minutes, as Danny Walker made a break, combining with Williams who got the ball away to Dufty to finish off.

The closing stages turned heated, but Dufty marked this Magic appearance with a heroic hat-trick, as Warrington convincingly defeated the Rhinos, 22-6.
