Jamie Peacock on the World Club Challenge

In his latest Daily Mirror column, Jamie Peacock reflects on the 2004 World Club Challenge, where he captained the Bradford Bulls against Penrith Panthers.

With Wigan taking on Penrith in the World Club Challenge, it has brought back memories of Bradford's 2004 success against them.

I was captain that night at Huddersfield and we went in as underdogs. Penrith were playing away from home but we'd lost our starting half-backs Robbie Paul and Paul Deacon to injury so brought in Leon Pryce and Karl Pratt.

We got off to a great start. I remember Paul Anderson was on fire that night, carrying the ball in early on and totally skittling a few of their players to really set the tone. And we dominated it. We came out, played hard, played physical but had a great team ethos. That's why we came away with another World Club Challenge victory. Everyone contributed and delivered a nine out of ten performance and, really, that's what Wigan need to do tonight: they can't have any players off when playing Australia's best.

Some will need to have the best game of their careers to win this match. Wigan are at their best when they are relentless, intense and ruthless with their detail. If they do that they will give Penrith a hell of a game. They have that star quality in there to trouble them as well.

Penrith are without Jarome Luai but what Nathan Cleary did on his own in that amazing 16 minute spell to win the NRL Grand Final against Brisbane means they are more than capable without him.

They have brought in 20 year-old Jack Cole at stand-off for what will only be his second first-team game. But one of the reasons they have won three in a row is their ability to bring in quality juniors one after another, waiting there like buses. It will be a challenge.

Wigans middles will definitely be challenged because they are missing Luke Thompson and Sam Walters as well as Ethan Havard.
