Round 7 Preview

The Betfred Super League is back after a week’s break for the Betfred Challenge Cup Quarter-Finals – and ‘Amazing April’ continues!

It's Round 7 and that means we're just one round away from the highly anticipated Rivals Round. But first, here’s what we have in store this upcoming weekend…

Thursday 10 April

Salford Red Devils v Leeds Rhinos (20.00) – live on Sky Sports

The loop fixtures have begun as Salford host Leeds for the second time in Super League this season.

The Rhinos ran out as 6-32 victors in Round 2, but the Red Devils have shown great spirit in their recent matches – and came extremely close against Catalans Dragons in their Challenge Cup quarter-final tie.

Leeds came close against Warrington Wolves in Round 6 and will be hoping to bounce back from this narrow defeat.

There’s movement in Salford’s team, as skipper Kallum Watkins returned to the Rhinos early this week. He will be unavailable for Thursday's fixture, however.

The Rhinos without Brodie Croft who has been ruled out with a hamstring injury for the rest of this month. Jack Smith who has played every Reserves game this season and Presley Cassell who has played in every Academy and Reserves game both come into the squad and could be set to make their Rhinos debuts on Thursday night.

Cam Smith and Andy Ackers also remain unavailable for the Rhinos through injuries.

Friday 11 April

Hull KR v Wigan Warriors (20.00) – live on Sky Sports

It’s a big one…the table toppers versus the champions!

League leaders Hull KR remain three points clear at the top heading into Round 7, but arguably face one of their toughest tests yet, when they welcome Wigan Warriors to Sewell Group Craven Park.

And in the regular league last year, Wigan snatched a 24-20 victory at The Brick Community Stadium – ensuring that they would go on to lift the League Leaders’ Shield.

They then met in October’s Grand Final thriller; with Bevan French’s try the only thing separating the two sides.

But on the Robins home patch last year, it was KR who won 26-10 – and they are so far unbeaten in East Hull in 2025.

It’s set to be a sensational showdown as two of the top sides meet again…

Interestingly, Wigan are the team that ended their unbeaten start in KR’s title-winning 1984/1985 season – also in Round 7 at Craven Park. Will history repeat itself or will the Robins go seven from seven?

Head Coach, Willie Peters has named his 21-man squad ahead of Friday's match.

There's three changes to last week's squad with their star man Mikey Lewis unfortunately dropping out due to groin injury.

Lee Kershaw isn't included due to his recent loan move to Castleford Tigers and Bill Leyland also misses out this week.

The Robins will be boosted by the return of James Batchelor, who comes back into the extended squad and is in contention to make his return, with Arthur Mourgue also returning after being cup tied last weekend.

Noah Booth then comes into the 21-man squad for the first time this season.

Number of former Wiganers – Michael McIlorum, Joe Burgess and Oliver Gildart are also set to face their old club in a Robins jersey.

Wigan head coach has made one change to his squad for the clash at Sewell Group Craven Park as Abbas Miski returns to replace Luke Thompson.

St Helens v Wakefield Trinity (20.00) – live on Sky Sports and SuperLeague+

Can Wakefield Trinity continue their 100% away form?

Standing in their way is a strong Saints side, who are searching for their first home win since Round 1 back in February.

Trinity have produced major scalps on the road in 2025 – convincingly beating Leeds, Warrington and Leigh on the road.

They have already come up against Paul Wellens’ men already this season, however, with Saints dominating 6-26 at Belle Vue.

Wakefield’s last win at the Totally Wicked came in 2022 – an emphatic 18-34 victory that afternoon.

Will Saints secure a second successive victory over Wakefield in 2025? Or will Trin enjoy another away day?

Saints have made a number of changes to their squad - Mark Percival and Jake Wingfield following their failed Head Injury Assessments are ruled out, whilst Daryl Clark and Ben Davies also step out of the squad.

In come Lewis Murphy - a former Wakefield star, Jake Burns and Harry Robertson. Murphy has been working on his rehab following a hamstring injury picked up in Round 1 and is named in the squad selection for the first time since then.

Hooker Jake Burns looks to step into the side for Daryl Clark, whilst Harry Robertson is now back available after following protocols following his failed HIA in Round 6 against Catalans Dragons a fortnight ago.

Daryl Powell has been able to welcome back Wakefield's main man Max Jowitt into the 21-man squad after he picked up a leg injury in Trinity’s Betfred Challenge Cup game with Huddersfield Giants.

Seth Nikotemo is also in line to play in his first Super League game having recovered from a hand injury which he picked up in pre-season.

Jayden Myers also comes into the squad that sees Oliver Russell (hand), Matty Russell (ribs) and Josh Griffin (hamstring) all drop out.

Saturday 12 April

Warrington Wolves v Hull FC (17.30) – live on Sky Sports and SuperLeague+

Super League Saturday starts with a fiery encounter when Warrington meet with Hull FC.

Both teams come into this game on the back of Round 6 Super League victories and will be eyeing up an important two points on offer.

They faced each other on three occasions last season, with the Wolves claiming all three victories. Will it be a similar or different scenario on Saturday?

Either way, we should expect an electric environment at the Halliwell Jones Stadium...

John Cartwright has been forced into making two changes to Hull's 21-man squad, with Jordan Lane (arm) and Brad Fash (calf) unavailable through injury.

Cade Cust has passed the eleven-day threshold after failing a head injury assessment a fortnight ago, putting him back in contention to return to action at the weekend.

Young forward Matty Laidlaw also comes into the 21-man squad for Saturday evening’s trip to the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Castleford Tigers v Leigh Leopards (20.00) – live on Sky Sports and SuperLeague+

There’s a clash of the cats on Saturday night as the Tigers entertain the Leopards at the Jungle, and both sides are hoping to return to winning ways in the Super League.

Leigh are unbeaten across their last five Super League games against Castleford, but who will take the two points this time around?

Sunday 13 April

Huddersfield Giants v Catalans Dragons (15.00) – live on Sky Sports and SuperLeague+

Round 7 concludes with Huddersfield taking on Catalans at the John Smith’s Stadium on Sunday, but can the Giants finally muster a win?

Huddersfield have currently lost each of their first six Super League games in 2025, their longest losing streak at any stage of a season since May-July 2021.

They’ve had rotten luck with injuries but will need to find some momentum from somewhere and will hope they can scrape a win past the Dragons in Round 7.

Meanwhile, Catalans have improved in recent rounds and will be looking to climb the league ladder and push up towards that top six...
