Play-Offs: Lewis living the dream

Mikey Lewis has produced some mesmerising performances in 2024, and now his side, Hull KR, find themselves just 80 minutes away from a maiden Grand Final.

Lewis has been integral to the Robins’ success this year and has earned the relevant recognition – back-to-back Player of the Month Awards and a place in this year’s Dream Team.

“I’m really proud of myself,” said Lewis. “It’s a compliment to how I’ve played this year and with playing well every week. To be a part of this team and be recognised for doing a good job, is a proud moment.”

The Robins recently secured an impressive top two finish for the first time in their history, but will be hoping to go one step further and reach the big stage:

“This year has gone so fast, but we’ve took it week by week and we’ve done tried to do it in a few blocks.

“We’ve all worked really hard for each other and put some good wins together. We’ve been really consistent as a team this year, so that top two finish is a reward for us and how we’ve done.

“The season has been a whirlwind and we don’t want it to end.”

As one of the finest magicians in this year's Betfred Super League, Mikey Lewis has been shortlisted as one of the contenders for 2024 Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel Award, but believes there’s still more to come from his individual performances:

“There’s always stuff I need to work on, and I’ll never be the finished article,” insisted Lewis.

“But I’ve really put the performances in this year and I’ve been consistent, so I’m excited to see what the next few years hold and where it goes.”

With Sewell Group Craven Park heading for a sell-out, there’s going to be an electric atmosphere on Friday night when Hull KR welcome Warrington Wolves.

The Robins enter this game on the back of a bye week, and Lewis, who has scored two tries against the Wolves this season, has placed emphasis on having home advantage:

“It was massive for us to secure to that home tie and it’s going to be a very special occasion at Craven Park on Friday.

“To have that home semi when you’re playing and having all the fans – they really do become that extra person so we can’t wait to go out there.

“We’ve kept an eye on the Eliminator games, but we’re just focused on working hard and getting refreshed.

“This week is a massive week, and we need to make sure we’re raring to go.”

For Lewis, he is a homegrown hero of the club, and is proud of the progress:

“It means a lot being just 80 minutes from a Grand Final. We’ve been close over the past couple of years and a bit unlucky – maybe it will be third time lucky this time.

“As long as we put an 80-minute performance in on Friday and be us and keep doing what we’ve been doing all year, then there’s no reason for us to be any different. It’s a big occasion but we’re the same team, but if we do what we’ve been doing for the past 27 rounds, then there’s no reason why we can’t get to Old Trafford.

“It would be a very proud moment. I’ve been at the club since I was 16 to now being 23. If I could walk out at a jam-packed Old Trafford, it would be a very special moment for myself – hopefully we can get there and do that.”
