Jamie Peacock on the Hall of Fame

In Jamie Peacock's latest Daily Mirror column, he reflects his recent induction into the Rugby League Hall of Fame.

I have to admit I was lost for words discovering I was going to be enrolled in the Rugby League Hall of Fame.

John Ledger, from Rugby League Cares, rang to tell me and I wondered what was happening.

It is a great honour first of all and hugely humbling to be warranted to be in that very small group of players who have left their mark on the game this side of the hemisphere.

You don’t ever think about these sorts of things happening. Far from it. When you first start out, you are just aiming to make it in the sport. I was anyway as I wasn’t earmarked to be a professional player, nevermind play for Great Britain and then get in the Hall of Fame.

I was just setting out trying to get in the first-team back at Bradford. Yet, 25 years after my debut, to be in and amongst all those icons and legends of the game - Neil Fox, Ellery Hanley, Roger Millward, Mal Reilly - really is a bit surreal.

Adrian Morley’s upset but in a good way; he was the only prop in there but now there’s two of us to pack down!

As well as Jane Banks and Michelle Land from the women’s game, it’s great to see Paul Sculthorpe honoured as well.

I managed to play a few times with Scully at international level...
