BWSL: Round 13 Preview

There are just two more rounds of the Betfred Women’s Super League left to go and there is plenty to look forward to in Round 13 this weekend.

The standout fixture this weekend will see Wigan Warriors take on York Valkyrie at Leigh Miners Rangers on Sunday (KO 2.30pm). With both teams currently level on 18 points, a win for either side would see them gain a two-point advantage on their opponents heading into the final round.

The Warriors recorded an impressive and important win over York Valkyrie away from home earlier this season. It was the Warriors’ first victory over the Valkyrie since 2019, as tries from Eva Hunter, Ellise Derbyshire and Jenna Foubister helped their side to a historic victory.

Dennis Betts has transformed the Cherry and White defence since his arrival as Head Coach, but the Valkyrie have won their last four away meetings with Wigan so it’s sure to be a tight encounter on Sunday.

Following their return to action last week, Matty Smith’s St Helens head over to Warrington Wolves (KO 12pm) on the back of an impressive win over Huddersfield Giants.

Saints are currently on a thirteen-match winning run across all competitions and sit top of the league table with a two-point margin. With their sights set on the League Leaders' Shield, every result from now until the end of the regular season is vital.

The Red V have faced the Wire twice already in 2024 in the group stage of the Women’s Challenge Cup during April, winning 6-58, and then in July the Saints hosted Warrington at the Totally Wicked Stadium and comfortably seeing them off 82-0.

Leeds Rhinos are looking to get back to winning ways against Featherstone Rovers at AMT Headingley Stadium following their defeat to York in the last round (KO 12pm).

With Leeds set to face Wigan in the final game of the regular season, a result for Leon Crick's side would boost them towards hosting one of this year’s semi-finals, whilst a win for Rovers would give them their first victory of the year.

Sunday will also see Barrow Raiders host Huddersfield Giants at Craven Park (KO 2pm) with the home team having beaten their opponents in their previous two meetings. Amanda Wilkinson’s side got a vital win against Featherstone last weekend which has boosted them up to fifth in the table with their position in next year’s competition now confirmed.
