BWSL: Round 12 Preview

The Betfred Women’s Super League returns this Sunday and with just three games remaining it’s all to play for at both ends of the table…

Although the top four places of the table are locked up before the semi finals, final positionings for Leeds Rhinos and York Valkyrie are still to be decided as the two sides clash at AMT Headingley (1 September, KO 12pm).

In a rematch of last year's Grand Final, the Rhinos can close the gap at the top of the league table with a second win over the Valkyrie this year, having won 16-10 back in May, whilst Lindsay Anfield's York side can move level on points with Leeds with a win on the road.

York arrive at AMT Headingley for the rematch with Leeds off the back of big wins against Warrington Wolves and Huddersfield Giants, but face a tough fixture against Wigan Warriors next week which could decide league positioning for both sides heading into the semi-finals later in September.

St Helens take on Huddersfield Giants at Laund Hill (KO 12pm) as they look to continue their pursuit of the League Leaders' Shield.

The Giants fell to a 60-6 loss to their opponents earlier this season which featured tries from Darcy Stott, Phoebe Hook, Georgia Sutherland, and braces from Leah Burke and Luci McColm.

Saints could win their second League Leaders' Shield should they win all three of their remaining fixtures, and they will be crowned League Leaders for the first time since their 2021 treble winning season.

Wigan Warriors host Warrington Wolves at Leigh Miners Rangers (KO 1pm) with Denis Betts hoping his side can bounce back following their defeat to Leeds in the last round.

They were convincing against the Wolves earlier this season after racing into an 18-0 half-time lead before going on to defeat Armani Sharrock’s side 48-4.

It was a tough afternoon for Warrington but since then they’ve picked up three wins which should keep them clear of the bottom of the table come the end of the season.

Featherstone Rovers are still without a win in the BWSL this year and come up against Barrow Raiders at the Millenium Stadium (KO 12pm). Rovers face Leeds and York in their final two fixtures and it’s looking increasingly likely they will feature in the promotion play off on October 6 to fight for their survival.
