Community Integrated Care nominated for major sports business award

15 Aug 2024

Rugby League’s official social care partner, Community Integrated Care, has been shortlisted for the 2024 Sports Business Awards.

The awards recognise and reward achievement by the teams that facilitate, behind the scenes, sporting excellence and endeavours.

Community Integrated Care has been shortlisted in the ‘Best Sports Community Scheme’ category for the Learning Disability Super League (LDSL), alongside key partners the RFL, RL Commercial and Sport England.

Nominees in the same category include EE, Paris Saint-Germain x Accord, Abu Dhabi Sport Council, LFC Foundation and Unilever x FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. Finalists will be announced in September, while the ceremony itself will be at London’s ‘Old Billingsgate’ – once the world’s largest fish market, but now an events and hospitality venue – later this year.

The LDSL will once again be part of Super League’s Magic Weekend this year, with matches taking place during the half times of game two on both days and people supported by the charity undertaking a range off-field roles.

The LDSL specifically has been part of Magic Weekend since 2019, with players experiencing the thrill of running out at famous stadia such as Anfield, St James’s Park and now Elland Road. It’s an experience unique in sport – a world-first programme that gives people who have learning disabilities and autism the chance to play a specially adapted version of Rugby League for the clubs that they love on the biggest stage.

Across the weekend players from the following 19 clubs will be involved: Barrow Raiders; Bradford Bulls; Castleford Tigers; Featherstone Rovers; Halifax Panthers; Hull FC; Hull KR; Leeds Rhinos; Leigh Leopards; Newcastle Thunder; Rochdale Hornets; Salford Red Devils; Sheffield Eagles; St Helens; Wakefield Trinity; Warrington Wolves; Widnes Vikings; Wigan Warriors; and York Knights.
